Chimarras House is a single-family house located in Papagou, a low-rise neighbourhood in Athens. The design is conceived with the purpose of unifying the life of the house with a lush neighbouring grove. The house consists of three levels. The main living areas are situated on the first floor while the ground floor and second floor contain other support functions and the bedroom.
The floor plates are shaped so as to extend what is happening inside the house out into the lush scenery outside. Large glazed operable panels create completely open living areas, and a generous balcony extends the life of the house into the outdoors. A handrail designed to also function as a bench creates a unique experience of hovering above the garden and sitting near the tree canopy.
On the street side the building appears more opaque. Smaller openings allow for indirect daylight to enter the house while filtering the views of the street.
