Daskalopoulos Arts Building
Education
Located at the heart of the Athens College campus, the D. Daskalopoulos Arts Building is conceived as a new cultural and social hub that celebrates the role of the arts in shaping the future of education. Designed as a loose constellation of volumes encircling a central indoor courtyard, the building acts as both a platform for artistic expression and a dynamic space for interaction, learning, and experimentation.
The project supports a STEAM-based educational vision, placing the arts alongside science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and cross-disciplinary exploration. Through a porous and interconnected spatial layout, the building encourages moments of curiosity and dialogue among students and faculty, while its transparency and openness connect indoor classrooms to the surrounding nature.
The architecture responds directly to the rich landscape and topography of the campus, bridging flat fields and wooded areas through a series of sloping roofs and outdoor extensions. These spaces offer opportunities for outdoor classrooms, performances, and installations, blurring the boundary between built form and nature.
More than a new school building, the D. Daskalopoulos Arts Building is a catalyst for community, creativity, and resilience—an inspiring space that reflects the values of Athens College and looks confidently toward the future.
